Provider Credentialing
Beginning July 1, 2007 all new applicants (except Parent
Liaisons) regardless of their discipline will be required to show they
have completed coursework within 10 years of their credential
application or attended workshops/conferences that focus on 4 core
knowledge areas specific to EI. Documentation must show a minimum of 2
semester hours or 30 clock hours in each of the four areas defined
below.
All currently credentialed providers must have these core
areas documented when they renew their credential(s) after July 1, 2007.
• Typical and Atypical Child Development (at least 1 semester hour
or 15 contact hours in each area).
• Working with families who have children, ages birth to five,
with special needs.
• Intervention strategies for young children, ages birth to five,
with special needs.
• Assessment of young children with special needs.
For more information on the new credentialing requirements, see the Winter 2005 issue of the Early Intervention Training News
Using Videos for Credit Hours
Beginning April 1, 2006 a maximum of 5 hours of
EI Video credit may be used for every 30 hours of continuing education
submitted for renewal and/or core knowledge area documentation purposes.
Any videos completed prior to April 1, 2006 may be used even though they
may exceed the 5 hour maximum.
To help providers and applicants meet
their credentialing goal, the Illinois Early Childhood Intervention
Clearinghouse has worked with the Early Intervention Training Program to
identify approximately 175 recent videos at the Clearinghouse that are
now approved for credit hours. While providers cannot utilize
video-based training for all of the hours, they can apply for credit for
at least some of the required hours. Once the videos are borrowed and
viewed, the applicant needs to complete an EI Training Video Credit
Request form (available from the Clearinghouse or by downloading the
form here.)

Clearinghouse videos can be loaned for two weeks. If a video is checked
out by someone else at the time of the request, a hold will be placed on
the item and you will be notified as soon as it becomes available.
Services are provided free of charge, with the exception of postal costs
to return the videos loaned from the library. You may be able to use
your local library to return the videos through inter-library loan at no
charge.
